We are whispering it, but it looks like we may be able to offer some classes again from the beginning of September!
We have a new knitting instructor who has recently arrived from Canada. Sandra was a knitting instructor with Urban Yarns in Vancouver, British Columbia since it first opened in 2004 until she immigrated to Ireland in 2019. Sandra teaches a variety of classes and workshops, including beginner, intermediate and advanced knitting skills, lace knitting, cables, fairisle, as well as couture finishing, and she continues to study with Jean Wong to further her knowledge of Japanese couture techniques in the Nihon Vogue style.
She will be starting slowly with a two-part, 8-week series of classes for beginners:
- Part 1 of this series focusses on learning the basic knitting skills, from slip knots, to cast on, knit, purl, increases and decreases, and binding off. This bootcamp style course will ensure that students have a firm understanding of the knitted fabric and the elements of its construction.
- Part 2 launches students into their first project, applying the skills they have learned in part 1 and expanding and exploring new skills to increase their knowledge and build their confidence to try even more ambitious projects on their own. We have pre-selected three small projects for students to chose from, each with different challenges and techniques to master.
We don't currently have a space to offer classes at Winnie's Craft Cafe, so we have arranged to use a room in Booterstown Parish Parochial Centre beside the Church on Booterstown Avenue. The rooms are large and airy, allowing the classes to be conducted with proper social distancing to ensure the health and safety of all participants.
Please call or email us if you would like to sign up. We would be delighted to answer any questions that you have and to take a deposit which will, of course, be fully refundable if the course is not able to go ahead. Registration is limited in line with current government protocols. Call us on 01 260 3734 or email us at wool@WinnietheWoolWagon.com
